Internet boost in Johor with 55 fibre-optic PoP expected to be built by November, says exco rep

JOHOR BARU: A total of 55 fibre-optic Points of Presence (PoP) in Johor are expected to be completed before the end of November this year.

Johor Housing and Local Government Committee chairman Datuk Mohd Jafni Md Shukor said the project is worth RM203mil with each PoP covering a radius of about 5km.

"The Johor government is committed to ensuring that this project under the Communications and Digital Ministry will be able to benefit the people in the state.

"Out of the 55 PoP, three have received permits to be built, 21 are in the waiting line from the local authority, and 31 are undergoing the documentation process to be handed over to the local authority," he said in a statement here on Thursday (May 25).

The contractors have given assurances that they would be able to complete the construction of 24 PoP by July this year and the remaining 31 before November this year, he added.

"I am confident that all 55 PoP will be able to provide good internet connectivity," he said, adding that the 55 PoP would be located in Tangkak, Muar, Kulai, Segamat, Batu Pahat, Mersing, and Pontian.

The Bukit Permai assemblyman added that he was working closely with the Johor Works, Transportation, and Infrastructure committee chairman Mohamad Fazli Mohamad Salleh and Johor Education, Information, and Communication Committee Chairman Norliza Noh to ensure that the project can be completed.
