Court tells Anwar to file reply to defence by May 30 in defamation suit against Pendang MP


KUALA LUMPUR: The High Court here has directed Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim to file his reply to the defence in his defamation suit against Pendang MP Datuk Awang Solahuddin Hashim by May 30.

Deputy Registrar Aisyaf Falina Binti Abdullah, in case management on Tuesday (May 16), also set May 31 as the next date for case management for a status update.

Anwar, 75, had filed the suit through Messrs SN Nair & Partners at the High Court here on March 3 and named Awang Solahuddin as the sole defendant.

Anwar claimed that Awang Solahuddin made defamatory remarks against him at a press conference at the Parliament lobby when attending the Dewan Rakyat sitting on Feb 21.

He said the remarks, which were recorded in audio and video, had been published and were made public.

Anwar is seeking general, aggravated and exemplary damages and compensation as well as an injunction order to refrain the defendant or his agent from republishing the alleged defamatory remarks.
