KOTA KINABALU: The body of a fisherman, who went missing after being attacked by a crocodile four days ago in waters off Tungku, has been recovered on Monday (May 15) by villagers in Lahad Datu.

A Sabah Fire and Rescue Services Department spokesman said the body of Rusbin Asri, 40, was found at about 6.45am along the beach near Kampung Nala Lama in Tungku about 100km from Lahad Datu.

The victim's remains were positively identified by family members and handed over to the police.

Lahad Datu OCPD Asst Comm Dr Rohan Shah Ahmad said on Friday that at least four marks were found on his body that indicated that he was attacked by a crocodile.

His body was found still clad in a black T-shirt.

The victim was attacked while on his boat at Kampung Makuau beach in Tungku at about 10.30pm on Friday (May 12).

Witnesses claimed they saw a crocodile whipping its tail amid screams for help by the victim whose boat had overturned.

The search and rescue operation was carried out by the district marine police, Fire and Rescue Department as well as the Wildlife Department.

A day before the incident on May 11, authorities in the Beluran district recovered the torso of a man who was attacked by a crocodile on May 9.
