Single dad goes to jail after road rage incident


MELAKA: A single father of two has been sentenced to eight months’ jail by the Magistrate’s Court here for brandishing an air pistol to intimidate a motorcyclist during a road rage incident.

Low Zhao Yuan, 29, pleaded guilty to two offences before Magistrate Mazana Sinin yesterday.

He was charged under the Penal Code for criminal intimidation and intent of causing fear against Muhammad Zulhusni Mohamad Amin, 25.

Low was also charged under the Firearms Act 1960 for possession of an imitation pistol.

The court imposed the eight-month sentence for the first charge and six months’ imprisonment for the second.

It ordered for the sentences to run concurrently from the date of his arrest on April 28.

The offences were committed in front of the Melaka Mall building at 12.17am on April 28.

The accused was represented by counsel James S. Thanjong Tuan.

According to earlier reports, Melaka Tengah OCPD Asst Comm Christopher Patit said checks showed the man has several previous records related to drugs. He was also placed under police surveillance for two years under the Dangerous Drugs Act.
