Send kids to school with water bottles, parents told

JOHOR BARU: Parents have been reminded to ensure their children bring water bottles to school in light of the current hot weather.

Kumpulan Penggerak Ibu Bapa Komuniti Swasta Nasional chairman Datuk Yahya Jaafar said the Education Ministry has issued a circular on guidelines to tackle rising Covid-19 cases as well as the hot weather.

“With the reopening of schools following a long holiday, many schools have already taken preventive measures by following the Covid-19 guidelines.

“This includes encouraging students to always wear their masks in school and to observe good hygiene practices,” he added.

However, Yahya said the ministry has also put in place several measures to ensure the comfort of students during the heatwave.

He added that one of the measures was to encourage children to bring water bottles to school so they can quench their thirst at any time.

“Besides that, schools must ensure that the windows and doors in classrooms are open at all times to promote proper ventilation. Some schools have postponed their sports day while physical education lessons will be held indoors,” he said.

Yahya also reminded parents to ensure their children attend school despite Thursday (May 4) being a public holiday for Wesak.

“Hopefully, schools will have good attendance records, as principals and headmasters have reminded parents to make sure their children attend school,” he added.
