Chong Wei reminisces about school days with Mew Choo on her birthday

PETALING JAYA: Badminton ace Datuk Lee Chong Wei has penned a heartfelt note to his wife, Wong Mew Choo, on her birthday, reminiscing about their time in school and the early days of their relationship.

"During my schooling days when others' bag were filled with books and pens, mine was just filled with (a) pillow to sleep.

"I would borrow some papers and pen from the girl sitting in front of me, by kicking her chair to get attention," he wrote in a Facebook post on Monday (May 1) night.

"I asked her to be my girlfriend when playing at the World Youth Championship while she was sitting for SPM, despite she saying 'no' due to objections from her parents and sister.

Chong Wei also shared how he would wait for her at the staircase area of their hostel to talk to her, and grabbing her hands to run up the stairs when hearing outsiders coming.

"I kept our relationship under wraps for eight years to protect her, from the media and pressure from the family.

"Finally, I married her and today, am a dad of three with her.

"If I can turn back time, I won't change anything I did for her, because I love her so much truly and will hold her hands till the end of time.

"Happy birthday, my one and only love, Mew Choo," he ended the note.
