Jilted lover believed to have set fire to former girlfriend's porch

KAJANG: A jilted lover is believed to have splashed kerosene onto the house of his former girlfriend and set the house porch on fire.

Kajang OCPD Asst Comm Mohd Zaid Hassan said the incident occurred at 3.44am on Friday (April 7).

"We were alerted about the incident and sent police to the scene to investigate further.

"Our checks revealed that the incident occurred at a neighbourhood at Taming Jaya, here," he said in a statement on Friday.

He said investigations showed that a man had thrown a flammable substance believed to be kerosene into the house compound which caused a fire.

"The Fire and Rescue Department was also alerted and had arrived at the scene to put out the flames.

"A 51-year-old man who was living in the house said he was asleep when he woke up to screams of his name.

"He opened the door and found that the front portion of his house was ablaze," he said, adding that further investigations revealed that his daughter's former lover constantly came to the house to harass the family and threatened them.

He said police have opened an investigation into arson under Section 436 of the Penal Code and were now looking for the 45-year-old suspect.
