Mosques, surau urged to organise special prayers for Palestine

KUALA LUMPUR: Mosques under the supervision of the Islamic Development Department of Malaysia (Jakim) have been instructed to perform special "hajat" prayers on Thursday (April 6) seeking protection for Palestine and the well-being of its people.

Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Religious Affairs) Datuk Dr Mohd Na'im Mokhtar (pic) said the mosques were the National Mosque, the Putra Mosque and the Tuanku Mizan Zainal Abidin Mosque.

"Mosques and surau under the administration of the Federal Territories Islamic Religious Department (JAWI) have also been asked to perform 'solat hajat' tomorrow," he told Bernama on Wednesday (April 5).

At least 12 Palestinians were injured and hundreds arrested in an Israeli police raid on Al-Aqsa Mosque compound before dawn on Wednesday.

The Prime Minister's Department (Religious Affairs) strongly condemned the blatant action by Israeli police, Na'im said.

Meanwhile, the Selangor government also condemned the action by Israeli police.

In a statement, Selangor Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari said the government and people of Selangor strongly condemned the action by the Israeli authorities.

"We stand in solidarity with the people of Palestine and invite world leaders to also condemn the actions of the Zionist regime," he said in the statement.

He added that mosques and surau in Selangor also perform "solat hajat" to pray for the safety and well-being of Palestine and its people.
