GEORGE TOWN: Three football supporters were arrested following a fight outside City Stadium here on Saturday (April 1).

George Town OCPD Asst Comm Soffian Santong said the fight occurred at about 12.30am after the Super League match between Penang and Perak.

"The fight resulted from provocation between the supporters and occurred outside of the stadium," he said in a statement on Sunday (April 2).

He said the suspects, aged between 20 and 23, were initially detained for further investigations, but were released with police bail after interrogation.

He said urine checks conducted on the suspects were negative, however, one of the suspects had a criminal record for criminal and drug offences.

ACP Soffian said police are still looking for several individuals who were believed to be involved in the fight.

He said the case is investigated under Section 147 of Penal Code for rioting.
