Couple killed, toddler injured in Baling crash

ALOR SETAR: A two-year-old boy survived a horrific crash that killed his parents after the van they were travelling in was involved in an accident near Baling.

Baling district police chief Supt Shamsudin Mamat said that, in the 10.15pm incident on Friday, Saiful Azmi Mohd Razali, 35, died at the scene while his wife Sailulhayati Mat Isa, 36, died while receiving treatment at Hospital Kulim ‘s Emergency Unit.

He said the couple’s son, Amar Rizqi, who was sitting in the rear, suffered a head injury burns on his left hand.

He was rushed to the same hospital for further treatment, Bernama reported.

‘“Investigations show that the victims are believed to have been travelling from Baling to Kulim, Kedah, before Saiful Azmi lost control of the van he was driving and crashed into a bridge wall on the left side of the road.

“The impact caused the van to skid and a four-wheel drive vehicle driven by a male teacher crashed into the front of the van,” Supt Shamsudin said in a statement yesterday.

He added that the accident occurred at KM41.02 on Jalan Baru Kulim-Besut, near Baling.

Supt Shamsudin said the teacher sustained injuries and was taken to Hospital Kulim for treatment.

The case is being investigated under Section 41 (1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
