Two drug rings busted, RM11mil worth of narcotics seized

SHAH ALAM: Some RM11mil worth of drugs was seized when police busted two drug trafficking syndicates in Selangor.

Seven people were detained in separate operations conducted by the Bukit Aman Narcotics Crime Investigation Department.

Selangor police chief Comm Datuk Hussein Omar Khan said in the first case, three men were detained following a raid at a parking lot of an apartment in Damansara Perdana on Tuesday.

“The suspects were in the midst of transferring drugs from one vehicle to another.

“Follow-up operations led police to nab another male suspect in Shah Alam,” he said at the Selangor police headquarters here yesterday.

In the second case, Comm Hussein said 28 blocks of heroin and a block of methamphetamine were seized following a raid in Port Klang, also on Tuesday.

“We detained a man and confiscated the drugs after inspecting the suspect’s vehicle.

“Further investigations led the raiding team to a parking lot in Ampang, where more heroin was seized from a car.

“Follow-up operations led to the arrests of two men and a woman in Klang, Tanjung Malim and Cyberjaya, believed to be from the same syndicate,” he added.

Comm Hussein said more than 300kg of drugs worth about RM11mil were seized in both operations.“The drugs from both syndicates were meant for the Klang Valley market. We also seized three vehicles and jewellery worth RM191,080,” he said.

The seized methamphetamine could have been supplied to 1.5 million users while the heroin could have been supplied to 87,450 addicts, he said.

Meanwhile, Bernama reported that police have identified the person who sent a parcel to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and Economy Minister Rafizi Ramli containing a tube of toothpaste infused with what was thought to have been cannabis leaf extract.

Comm Hussein said police have the sender’s details and will make an arrest after tracking down the whereabouts of the person, who is believed to be a local.

“We sent the package to the chemistry laboratory and analysis revealed that it did not contain any types of drugs and it was just toothpaste,” he added.

On March 14, Rafizi told reporters that he and Anwar had received a package containing the item.
