Lorry driver nabbed for trying to smuggle subsidised diesel at Pasir Gudang industrial park


JOHOR BARU: A lorry driver has been arrested for attempting to smuggle subsidised diesel.

Seri Alam OCPD Supt Sohaimi Ishak said the 60-year-old local suspect was detained by officers from the Region 2 Marine Police at an industrial park in Pasir Gudang at around 1.30pm on Tuesday (March 21).

“We found two plastic containers with 1,500 of subsidised diesel in them,’’ he said in a statement.

Supt Sohaimi said police also seized items worth RM26,725 consisting of a lorry, diesel, an oil pump and a mobile phone from the suspect.

He added that initial investigation showed the suspect did not have a criminal record.

The case is being investigated under Section 21 of the Control of Supplies Act 1961, for having controlled goods and intending to commit an offence with the items as well as not having a valid licence.
