Johor floods: Batu Pahat only district affected, over 2,500 victims still in relief centres

JOHOR BARU: The number of flood victims in Johor remains unchanged with 2,540 people still affected as of 8am on Wednesday (March 22), when it was earlier recorded at 4am.

Batu Pahat is the only district hit by floods with 20 temporary relief centres (PPS) there accommodating victims from 701 families.

“PPS Sekolah Agama Seri Medan in Parit Sulong, Batu Pahat has the highest number of evacuees with 314 victims from 74 families,’’ said the state Disaster Management Committee.

The statement said the victims were from Kampung Baru Mukim 8, in Seri Medan.

Three roads – one in Kulai and two in Kluang are still closed to all vehicles due to landslides, sinkholes and a damaged bridge along the stretch.

The road in Kulai is Jalan Ulu Tebrau-Sungai Tiram while the roads in Kluang are Jalan Lingkaran Kahang Barat near the FTPSB worker’s hostel and Jalan GSA Chamek at the GSA Chamek bridge.
