PUTRAJAYA: The Budget 2023 allocation for expenditure in the education sector will not be reduced, says Education Minister Fadhlina Sidek (pic)

Speaking to the media after launching the 2023 MSSM Calendar here today, she said the priority of the Education Ministry in Budget 2023 is dilapidated schools.

"There will be no reduction but from time to time, our formula is towards the needs of schools. The priority of the Ministry in Budget 2023 is dilapidated schools which would be given preference, while maintenance allocation remains with no reduction as we want to ensure schools are safe, comfortable as well as the quality of education,” she said.

The national education sector continues to receive attention in Budget 2023 with the highest allocation amounting to RM55.2 billion compared with RM52.6 billion in 2022.

On worries of parents on the price of food at school canteen, Fadhlina said the issue does not arise as there are agreements and guidelines between the canteen and the school.

"If there is an issue, it could be referred to the terms from time to time for discussion between the canteen and school,” she said.

Asked if there are plans to have uniform prices in canteen according to state, she said the matter would be studied if there is a need. - Bernama
