RM32mil raised by TAR UMT alumni gives hope to many students, says Dr Wee

PETALING JAYA: The RM32mil raised by the TAR UMT Alumni Council and its chairman Tan Sri Chan Kong Choy has given hope to many students who want to further their tertiary education, says Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong.

The MCA president, in a Facebook post Tuesday (March 14), also said the event organised by the council on Saturday (March 11) to celebrate fund donors was a glorious one.

"A big thank you to DYMM Sultan Selangor, Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah Alhaj and DYMM Tengku Permaisuri Norashikin for gracing the event that witnessed the generosity and the kind gesture of the alumni to give back to their alma mater," the Ayer Hitam MP said in his post.

Dr Wee added that while many had been badly affected by the Covid-19 pandemic, the compassion for students who face financial difficulties spurred these alumni to make a difference in the lives of the younger generation.

"I hope the event will inspire more kind souls to contribute to this good cause. Again, I would like to express my deepest appreciation to the leadership of Tan Sri Chan Kong Choy, the TAR UMT Alumni Council, the university’s Board of Governors, its management and the alumni for their contributions.

"Thank you from the bottom of my heart," Dr Wee said.
