Bill tabled to protect govt from liability over defective windfall profit levy orders from 1999 to 2023

KUALA LUMPUR: A Bill was tabled in Dewan Rakyat to indemnify the government for imposing windfall profit tax, particularly on palm oil producers since 1999 despite defective orders to do so.

The Bill, titled the Windfall Profit Levy (Validation) Act 2023, if passed, will validate windfall profit tax or levy purportedly imposed and collected by the government between Jan 1, 1999 and Jan 31, 2023.
