Volunteers patrol flooded, abandoned villages to prevent theft

BATU PAHAT: For over a week, Hishamuddin Sezali and several other residents of Kampung Sungai Gajah here have devoted their nights and days to protecting the village that has been fully submerged in floodwaters.

The 34-year-old contractor said a group of about eight people from the village have set up a makeshift post along Jalan Sungai Rambut, the main road leading to Kampung Sungai Gajah and several other villages nearby.
