New orchid hybrid named after PM Anwar

IPOH: A new orchid hybrid has been named after Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

The cross-breed between the Aranda Technokraft and Aranda Sayan was officially named Aranda PMX-Anwar, who launched the National Landscape Day at D.R Seenivasagam Park here on Saturday (March 11).

The orchid with yellow-orange flowers first started flowering on March 5, 2013, and the cross-breeding initiative was carried out by the National Landscape Department and the Malaysian Agricultural Research and Development Institute (Mardi).

This hybrid measures between three and 4.5 cm and has been registered with the Orchid Hybrid International Registration Authority in Britain.

Local Government Development Minister Nga Kor Ming presented the orchid to Anwar after he launched the event.
