Missing fisherman found dead in mangrove near Masai


JOHOR BARU: A 61-year-old fisherman, who was missing for two days, has been found dead.

Seri Alam OCPD Supt Mohd Sohaimi Ishak said the victim had gone fishing in Sungai Lintang near Pasir Gudang and did not return since leaving home at around 5pm on Monday (March 6).

"After his family could not contact him, the fisherman’s daughter came to us for help at around midnight on Wednesday (March 8).

"A search and rescue operation involving the marine police and the Fire and Rescue Department was conducted in hopes of finding the missing fisherman.

"At around 11.45am, the body of a man was found caught between some mangrove tree roots near Sungai Nyor Kong-Kong Laut in Masai here," he said.

Supt Mohd Sohaimi said the family confirmed that the body was that of the missing fisherman.

The body was handed over to Hospital Sultan Ismail for post-mortem.
