Floods: More evacuees in Batu Pahat and Mersing, situation improves in other parts of Johor

JOHOR BARU: The number of flood evacuees in Batu Pahat and Mersing has increased again while the situation in the rest of Johor improves.

The number of evacuees recorded in Johor as of 8pm on Wednesday (March 8), was 42,851 people from 12,083 families compared with 41,053 from 11,727 families at 4pm, said the state disaster management committee.

“The evacuees in Batu Pahat have gone up to 32,312 at 8pm from 30,418, four hours ago.

“The victims are from 8,986 families and are seeking shelter at 100 temporary flood relief centres (PPS),” it said in a statement.

In Mersing, 1,164 evacuees were reported, also an increase from the 1,118 victims recorded at 4pm.

“Other than Batu Pahat and Mersing, the numbers at the other affected districts such as Muar (4,151), Tangkak (2,499), Segamat (1,512), Kota Tinggi (707) and Kluang (506) have reduced as more evacuees were allowed to go home.

“Currently, 186 PPS are open statewide to house the flood victims,” it added.
