Search mounted for man who went missing on Kinabatangan river

KOTA KINABALU: A search and rescue (SAR) operation has been mounted after a man went missing while testing his boat on a river in Kinabatangan on Tuesday (March 7).

Alner Kalim, who is in his 20s, has yet to be found as of 6.40pm with the search operation suspended for the night.

The search will resume on Wednesday (March 8) morning.

Earlier at 4.38pm, the Fire and Rescue Department was alerted of the situation at Kampung Bengkala river, where the victim was last seen at 11am.

"The report said the victim went to test his boat at the river, but villagers found the boat capsized and he was not at the area.

"The Fire and Rescue team went to the location to gather information and conduct surface rescue around the (river) area.

"The search will continue tomorrow," said the Fire and Rescue spokesman.
