Floods: Batu Pahat remains worst-hit district in Johor


JOHOR BARU: The number of flood evacuees in Johor is more than 38,000 at 210 temporary relief centres (PPS) with Batu Pahat being the worst-hit district.

The state Disaster Management Committee said as of 10am on Tuesday (March 7), there were 38,620 evacuees in nine districts across Johor.

“The highest number of flood evacuees is located in Batu Pahat with 22,209 currently seeking shelter at 76 PPS.

“This is followed by Muar (4,094), Segamat (4,036), Kluang (2,591), Tangkak (2,584), Kota Tinggi (1,754), Mersing (1,164), Pontian (150) and Johor Baru (38),” the statement read.

The statement also said that a total of five deaths have been recorded so far in Johor due to the floods.

“Based on the Malaysia Meteorological Department forecast, there will be rain in Mersing and Kota Tinggi while other districts are expected to see better weather,” it added.
