KUALA LUMPUR: Umno president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi has given his blessing to Parit Sulong MP Datuk Noraini Ahmad to defend her Wanita Umno chief’s post in the coming party polls.

Describing her as “more than qualified,” the Deputy Prime Minister said Noraini had made positive proposals on the development of technical and vocational education and training (TVET).

“What has been proposed by Parit Sulong is a futuristic view and she is more than qualified to offer herself to defend her political post and may she win,” he said when wrapping up the debate on the motion of thanks on the Royal Address at the Dewan Rakyat.

Separately, former Wanita Umno chief Tan Sri Shahrizat Abdul Jalil had filed her nomination papers to contest the top post in the party polls in March.

It was reported that as many as 147 Wanita Umno division chiefs nationwide had called for Shahrizat to lead the Wanita wing again.

Earlier in Parliament, Noraini asked Ahmad Zahid, who is also the Rural and Regional Development Minister, on whether the ministry planned to work with industry players to ensure that TVET graduates are able to get good job opportunities.

Ahmad Zahid said the ministry was in the midst of improving the collaboration process, adding that over 10 MOUs had been inked with industry players to assist TVET graduates.

On the development of rural infrastructure especially in Sabah and Sarawak, he said the ministry will work closely with the relevant state agencies.
