Boy, eight, wins Malay story-telling contest

AN Indian boy who won a district-level Malay language storytelling competition was personally congratulated by Education Minister Fadhlina Sidek, Malaysia Nanban reported.

Sivabalan Manimaran, eight, from SJK(T) Appar in Kuala Lumpur, emerged champion in the competition which saw 47 primary schools taking part, including Malay and Chinese schools. Principal Mala Devi said the boy has made the school and his parents very proud.

The temple in Ujjain, Madhya Pradesh, is one of the 12 holiest temples for Shiva worshippers.

Devotees attending the overnight vigil as part of the festival lit up 1.8 million agal vilakku (oil lamps) on the steps of the Kshipra Riverbank.

The previous record of 1.5 million lamps was set at the site of the Ram Mandir temple in Ayodhya, Uttar Pradesh.
