PM’s order to ministers to look into AG’s report sends strong message

PUTRAJAYA: The Prime Minister’s directive to ministers to pay serious attention to the findings in the Auditor-General’s Report sends a strong message, says Auditor-General Datuk Nik Azman Nik Abdul Majid.

“The announcement sends a strong message and is encouraging to us as auditors,” he told a press conference after the tabling of the Series 2 of the 2021 Auditor-General’s report here on Thursday (Feb 16).

On Jan 18, Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said that Cabinet members should focus on expenditure, leakages and failures to abide by regulations which was highlighted in the Auditor-General’s Report 2021.

“These matters must be given serious attention by the Cabinet so these mistakes will not be repeated,” he said after chairing the Cabinet meeting.

The Prime Minister pointed out that the A-G report would usually come with recommendations and suggestions on how to rectify the problems.

“But we will see the same mistakes being repeated over and over again,” he said.
