Man nabbed for allegedly throwing Molotov cocktail at Sibu bank


SIBU: A man has been detained for allegedly throwing a Molotov cocktail onto the front door of a bank here on Wednesday (Feb 8).

Sibu OCPD Asst Comm Zulkipli Suhaili said at about 9.40pm on Wednesday (Feb 8), the central police station received a report from a member of the public concerning a small explosion in front of a bank in Jalan Kampung Nyabor.

"The crime investigation unit rushed to the scene and found broken pieces of glass which were part of a bottle believed to have been used to commit arson," he said.

Subsequently, at about 10.56pm, the team arrested a 36-year old suspect who has previous records for violent crime.

Zulkipli said the man is being remanded for investigation under Section 435 of the Penal Code for committing mischief by fire or any explosive substance that would likely cause damage to the property.
