Four nabbed over inmate's death at Sg Siput rehab centre

IPOH: Police have arrested four men, including three employees of the Perlop Cure and Care Rehabilitation Centre in Sungai Siput, over their suspected involvement in the death of an inmate there.

Perak police chief Datuk Seri Comm Mohd Yusri Hassan Basri said the three employees and another inmate, aged between 30 and 38, had been remanded for seven days from Thursday (Feb 2) to Feb 8.

Comm Mohd Yusri said they were being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code for the alleged murder of the 50-year-old inmate.

"On Jan 31, at about 12.55pm, we received information about the death of a man at the centre.

"Investigation found that there were injuries on his back," he said in a statement on Friday (Feb 3).

"The victim was brought to Hospital Sungai Siput and later referred to Hospital Raja Permaisuri Bainun, where a post-mortem found he had been hit with a blunt object.

"The people are advised to refrain from speculating on the case and should not spread unverified information, which can jeopardise the investigation," he added.
