PUTRAJAYA: State governments are encouraged to nominate potential wetlands as new Ramsar sites, said Natural Resources, Environment and Climate Change Minister Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad.
A Ramsar site is a wetland site designated under the Ramsar Convention which is an intergovernmental treaty established in 1971 in Ramsar, Iran by Unesco. It provides for national action and international cooperation regarding the conservation of wetlands, and wise sustainable use of their resources.
