SIBU: A man has been sentenced to three years jail and two strokes of the rotan by the Sessions Court on Wednesday (Feb 1) after he pleaded guilty for sexual assault against a young girl.
Judge Marutin Pagan also ordered that the accused, aged 36, to attend counselling while serving the sentence.
He is also to be placed under police supervision for one year after serving the sentence.
The accused, who is the cousin of the victim, aged 14 years old, was charged under the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017.
According to the facts of the case, at about 8am on Jan 10 this year, the victim was in her aunt's bedroom of a house in Kampung Hilir when the accused showed up.
He then asked the victim the whereabouts of his mother's belongings.
Soon after, he lied on her back and touched her breast.
Before he left the room, the accused told her not to reveal the incident to others.
The accused was arrested at 9.50am on the same day by the roadside of Jalan Masjid after the victim's father lodged a police report.
