Nine nabbed in raid on Sungai Petani illegal gambling den


SUNGAI PETANI: Nine men were arrested during a raid at an illegal gambling den at Pusat Komersil Saujana here in the wee hours of Saturday (Jan 28).

Kedah police chief Comm Datuk Wan Hassan Wan Ahmad said the suspects, aged from 20 to 47 years old, were arrested during a special operation that was conducted by police officers and personnel from the state Criminal Investigation Department D7 unit.

"During the raid, police also confiscated a sum of money amounting to nearly RM20,000 as well as equipment used for the gambling activities," he said in a statement Saturday (Jan 28).

He said that during the two-hour operation that begin at 2am, police discovered that one of the suspects was believed to be the organiser of the illegal gambling activities.

He said the suspects, who were all local, have been brought to the Kuala Muda district police headquarters for further action.

The case is being investigated under Section 6(1) of the Common Gaming Houses Act 1953.
