JOHOR BARU: Four temporary relief shelters have been shut down in Johor as the flood situation improves in certain places.
The state Disaster Management Committee said the four relief centres that had been closed as of noon on Friday (Jan 27) were at Dewan Serbaguna Pekan Air Panas and Gerakan Persatuan Wanita (GPW) Felda Medoi in Segamat, Dewan Serbaguna Felda Gugusan Maokil in Muar as well as SK Melayu Raya in Pontian.
"The number of flood victims have dropped to 4,532 as of noon on Friday compared to 4,868 about four hours earlier. Currently, they are seeking shelter at 46 relief centres statewide.
"The number of districts affected have also dropped to seven from eight previously as all victims in Pontian have now been able to return home," read the statement.
It added that Mersing remained as the district with the most number of victims (1,792), followed by Kluang (1,173), Kota Tinggi (897), Batu Pahat (358) Segamat (278), Muar (19) and Tangkak (15).
"The water level at two rivers in Segamat, one each in Muar, Kluang and Kota Tinggi are also still within dangerous levels," it said, adding that all districts had reported seeing clear skies as of 8am.
