Cops expect 40,000 visitors at Perak CNY event

IPOH: Police are expecting about 40,000 visitors to attend the Perak Chinese New Year celebration at Sunway Lost World of Tambun on Sunday (Jan 29).

Ipoh OCPD Asst Comm Yahaya Hassan said with such crowds, heavy traffic is expected along Jalan Tambun.

“Therefore, those who are heading to Tambun or Tanjung Rambutan, are advised to take alternative routes at Jalan Bercham to avoid the traffic.

“Meanwhile, for the members of the public who wished to attend the event, they must park at the available parking spots at Dataran Sunway,” he said in a statement Friday (Jan 27).

The state-level celebration will be attended by Perak Ruler Sultan Nazrin Muizzuddin Shah, Raja Permaisuri Perak Tuanku Zara Salim, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, who is also Tambun MP, and Perak Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Saarani Mohamad.

On Jan 22, Perak Tourism Committee chairman Loh Sze Yee said the event is scheduled to start at 2pm and visitors will be able to attend for free.
