Body in undergrowth: Pensioner remanded seven days in murder probe


MARANG: A pensioner has been remanded for seven days from Thursday (Jan 26) to help with the investigationinto the discovery of a woman's body in undergrowth along the Kampung Alor Gali-Wakaf Tapai road here on Jan 19.

The remand order against the 59-year-old man was issued by magistrate Zur Azureen Zainalkefli to assist the investigation under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder.

The suspect was arrested at 2.30pm on Wednesday (Jan 25) in Jeli, Kelantan.

Marang district police chief Deputy Supt Mohd Zain Mat Dris said in a statement on Wednesday that the victim had been identified as Zarina Mukhtar, 57, based on fingerprint records at the National Registration Department, and through the Criminal Record Registration Division (D2) at Bukit Aman.

Zarina was found lying on her back, fully clothed, by a member of the public who was looking for palas leaves.

There were no signs of a struggle or bloodstains at the scene, and no signs of stab wounds or cuts on the body. – Bernama
