Cops identify woman whose body was found in bushes near Marang

KUALA TERENGGANU: Police have identified the woman whose body was found in the bushes near the Kampung Alor Gali road heading to Wakaf Tapai in Marang last Thursday (Jan 19).

Marang OCPD Deputy Supt Mohd Zain Mat Dris said in a statement Wednesday (Jan 25) that the dead woman had been identified as 57-year-old Zarina Mukhtar, based on her fingerprint that was archived at the National Registration Department.

DSP Zain said a suspect believed to have been involved in the case had been arrested and was expected to be brought to the Marang Magistrate's Court on Thursday (Jan 26) to obtain a remain order.

Last Thursday, the body of Zarina was found by members of the public who were looking for Palas leaves (Licuala grandis) in the area.

DSP Zaid said there were no signs of any struggle or blood stains when the body was found and forensic reports showed that there were no slash or stab marks.

Even the gold ornaments that the victim was wearing, especially a ring and chain, were intact on the body. - Bernama
