75-year-old woman dies, two others injured after car crashes into ditch near Batu Pahat

BATU PAHAT: A 75-year-old woman was killed and two others injured after their car crashed into a ditch at KM7.9 of Jalan Muar-Yong Peng, here Wednesday (Jan 25).

Batu Pahat OCPD Asst Comm Ismail Dollah said that the incident occurred at 2.50pm on Wednesday when the driver, a 29-year-old woman, was heading towards Parit Yaani from Batu Pahat.

“The driver was the daughter of the victim, who was travelling with her 4-year-old granddaughter.

“The driver suddenly lost control of her vehicle and crashed into the ravine on the right side of the road,” he said in a statement.

ACP Ismail added that the road was the main route between Batu Pahat and Parit Yaani, and it was raining heavily during the incident, causing the road to be wet and slippery.

“The victim was pronounced dead at the location, while the driver and her daughter suffered minor injuries and were brought to the Yong Peng Health Clinic for treatment,” he said.

He added that the case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.

Meanwhile, Yong Peng Fire and Rescue Department operation commander Sulaiman Md Lamin said that the car had fallen into a 2m-deep ditch.

“We have used road traffic accident (RTA) equipment to remove the victim from their vehicle before handing them over to the police for further action,” he said.
