Maid makes off with cash and jewellery worth RM14,000

SEREMBAN: A couple must be rueing their decision to leave their maid at home alone after she escaped with cash and jewellery worth RM14,000.

Seremban OCPD Asst Comm Nanda Maarof said the couple hired the 40-year-old suspect who is an Indonesian only three months ago and left her at home to attend a relative's wedding in Sepang, Selangor on Jan 22.

"When they returned home later, they could not find the suspect.

"Upon checking, they found the kitchen door and the back gate open but the suspect was nowhere to be seen," he said.

ACP Nanda said the couple then discovered that cash and jewellery belonging to their daughter and the employer's mother-in-law which was kept in a room, were missing.

The maid also left her belongings including her clothes behind.

The case, he said, is being probed under Section 381 of the Penal Code for theft which provides a jail term of up to seven years and a fine upon conviction.
