Parcel bomb that killed waiter at Pandan Indah was detonated remotely, say cops

KUALA LUMPUR: The homemade bomb that killed a waiter at Pandan Indah was detonated remotely, says Selangor acting police chief Deputy Comm Datuk S. Sasikala Devi.

She said the two suspects were believed to also be in the vicinity of the explosion during the incident.

"Yes, we believe the bomb was detonated remotely," she told reporters on Saturday (Jan 7).

She said police have recorded statements from 36 individuals so far in connection with the case.

"I can confirm that the motive for the murder was for personal reasons. Both suspects are still under remand to assist with further investigations," she said, adding that police were investigating where the suspect learnt how to make the homemade bomb.

She said they seized various tools and equipment from the suspects’ home including some fireworks and blades.

It was learnt that the explosive device used contained similar materials.

A 28-year-old waiter at a restaurant in Pandan Indah was killed by an explosion at about 8.55pm on Dec 29 when he inspected a package placed on his car.

The victim sustained severe injuries to his body and hands.

He was rushed to Hospital Ampang but succumbed to his injuries.

A married couple was later detained on Jan 3.

The 33-year-old man and his 30-year-old wife were arrested at a house in Serdang, Kedah following a raid by a CID team from the Ampang Jaya district police headquarters.
