Seven police reports lodged over Jakel fires


SHAH ALAM: Seven police reports have been lodged over the fires at Wisma Jakel here.

Shah Alam OCPD Asst Comm Mohd Iqbal Ibrahim said the reports involved the latest fire on Tuesday (Jan 3) as well as the one on Sunday (Jan 1).

"Three reports were made by representatives of Jakel, three by traders from nearby premises and one by a member of the public," he told reporters after inspecting the scene of the incident on Tuesday.

He explained that the investigation would be handled by the Selangor Fire and Rescue Department.

"The police will conduct further investigations after receiving the (department's) full report on the matter.

"This will include (findings) if there was an act of arson or other criminal elements," he said, adding that police would be stationed at the scene to monitor the situation.

ACP Mohd Iqbal warned the public not to speculate about the incident on social media.

"We found that there is still speculation including allegations of insurance claims.

"We will take strict action against those responsible (for spreading the allegations)," he said.

Meanwhile, Shah Alam mayor Dr Nor Fuad Abdul Hamid said all premises in the area, including two banks, have been ordered to close for now.

"The Shah Alam City Council (MBSA) has followed the instructions from Bomba which is still conducting investigations and monitoring at the scene of the incident," he said.
