ISKANDAR PUTERI: Some 25 students from SMK Infant Jesus Convent Johor Baru brought joy to patients and staffers of a hospital here with a special Christmas choir performance.
The carollers sang six songs on their visit to the private hospital in Medini, including O Holy Night and All I Want For Christmas is You.
Principal Andi Noor Bachok said that apart from Christmas carols, the group also sang other famous songs such as Mamma Mia and We are the World.
“Since exam season is over and the students are not overwhelmed with studies now, they have more time to practise and perform for the public.
“They sang the songs at the hospital lobby where they could be heard by patients in the wards as well as outgoing patients registering at the front desk.
“It was such a special experience for the students as they got to boost the spirit of patients and hospital staff alike through their singing,” she said.
Andi added that the group was also the champion at the state-level Unity Choir Competition.
She said the all-girls choir brought the Christmas festivities to the hospital for the first time on Wednesday.
“Moving forward, the students will be performing at the hospital a few more times with the main performance on Dec 23 and 24.
“They will be entertaining patients with more Christmas songs as we get closer to the festival,” she added.
Apart from the choir group, some 19 students from the school’s St John Ambulance Malaysia club also visited the hospital.
Gleneagles Hospital Medini Johor chief executive officer Dr Kamal Amzan said he was grateful to the group for the warm gesture.
“Music is a great healing channel and can touch people in a very special way.
“Their presence at the hospital has brought delight to both patients and staffers here,” he said, adding that he was impressed by the performance.
