THERE is more good news for Malaysian director Lau Kok Rui (pic), who recently bagged both Best New Director and Best Original Screenplay at the prestigious Golden Horse Awards.

Sin Chew Daily reported that the 32-year-old registered his marriage in Hong Kong with a long-time girlfriend known only as Mavis, according to a Facebook post by Hong Kong-based Malaysian singer Karen Kong.

In the photo she shared, Lau who is dressed in a tuxedo can be seen hugging his wife, who is dressed in a bridal gown.

Accompanying them are Kong on the left and Hong Kong-based Malaysian model Fish Liew, both of whom were holding Lau’s trophies from the Golden Horse Awards.

When contacted, Lau said he wanted to thank his wife, who is from Hong Kong, for staying by his side for many years and encouraging him to not give up on his dream.

“My family members all came to Hong Kong to witness my marriage registration ceremony. However, I still do not have any plans to hold a reception back in Muar,” he said.

It was earlier reported that his film The Sunny Side of The Street bagged six nominations at this year’s awards including Best Leading Actor, Best Narrative Feature, Best New Director, Best New Performer, Best Cinematography and Best Original Screenplay.

The film centres on a friendship between a taxi driver and a 10-year-old Pakistani refugee boy as the former helps the youngster flee the city.

Lau later revealed that his next project will be Malaysia-focused.

Dubbed the “Chinese Oscars”, the Golden Horse Awards nominations were announced on Sept 27 and the awards ceremony took place in Taipei, Taiwan, on Nov 19.

> Taiwanese-American singer Wang Leehom will be officially making a comeback in 2023 after taking a one-year hiatus following his divorce, reported Sin Chew Daily.

The 46-year-old announced that he will be holding a concert on Jan 28 in Las Vegas entitled “ONE Lee Hom Wang”.

“Even if it is just one person, I want to sing for you!” he said in a voice recording uploaded to his official website.

The concert was arranged by renowned director Chiu Li-Kwan, who explained that fans yearn for the artiste’s return despite his marital woes.

“He loves music so much. Why are we depriving those who care for him and believe in him of his chance to perform for them?” she told the press.

Chiu revealed that Wang is currently rehearsing and composing new music for his upcoming concert.

When asked about his divorce, Chiu refused to comment.

Wang took a break from work in 2021 when his ex-wife Lee Jinglei accused him of various misdeeds throughout their marriage, including multiple infidelities, soliciting prostitutes and being verbally abusive and bullying towards her.

The two got married in 2013 and have three children together.
