Covid-19: Malaysia detects 1,682 new infections, hospital utilisation rate at 76.2%


PETALING JAYA: Malaysia detected 1,682 new Covid-19 infections on Wednesday (Dec 7), bringing the total number of cases in the country to 5,005,239 since the pandemic began.

The Health Ministry's KKMNow portal reported that 1,680 of Wednesday's new Covid-19 infections were locally transmitted while there were two imported cases.

The portal also reported that 1,428 individuals recovered from Covid-19 on Wednesday, bringing the total number of recoveries in the country to 4,946,495 since the pandemic began.

KKMNow also reported that there are 22,006 active Covid-19 infections in the country, with 20,514, or 93.2%, observing home quarantine.

A total of 1,401 Covid-19 patients, or 6.4% of active cases were warded in hospitals throughout the country while there were 91 individuals seeking treatment at intensive care units (ICU) nationwide as at 11.59pm Wednesday .

Of those in ICU, 33 individuals, or 0.1% of active cases, were unventilated while 58 patients, or 0.4%, required ventilator support.

KKMNow also reported that Malaysia's hospital utilisation rate was at 76.2% as at 11.59pm Wednesday, while the ICU utilisation rate was 65.3%.

Meanwhile, the Health Ministry's GitHub data repository reported that there were six deaths due to Covid-19 on Wednesday.

This brings the total number of fatalities due to Covid-19 in the country to 36,738 since the pandemic began.

Two deaths each were reported in Kedah and Perak while there was one death due to Covid-19 each reported in Selangor and Johor.
