Flash floods hit Baling again

ALOR SETAR: Heavy and continuous rain in Baling has caused flooding at Kampung Iboi again.

Villager Hasriah Din, 50, said the heavy rain lasted for two hours on Thursday (Dec 1) from 4pm and caused flooding in several low-lying areas.

"The rain was so heavy, it wasn’t long before the river next to my house overflowed and flooded the area," she told The Star.

She said she was lucky as her house was located on high ground and was not affected by the flood.

She said the rain had since stopped and authorities were still evacuating those living along the river.

Baling is flood-prone and experiences flooding in low-lying areas whenever there is heavy rain.

On July 4, the floods coupled with a water surge phenomenon affected 12 villages in Baling, including Kampung Iboi and Kampung Masjid Iboi.

The disaster also claimed three lives, including that of a pregnant woman.
