Ismail Sabri congratulates Anwar on PM appointment

PETALING JAYA: Former prime minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob has extended his congratulations to his successor Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

“I pray that the new government will be able to continue political stability and continue to preserve the country’s economic sustainability,” he said.

Ismail Sabri also thanked the Keluarga Malaysia and civil servants for their support during his time in office.

“I truly appreciate the support by the Malaysian Family with their help during my administration in overcoming challenges and ensuring that Malaysia is on the right track for health, politics and economic recovery,” he said.

The Pakatan Harapan chairman was sworn in before the King at 5pm at Istana Negara on Thursday (Nov 24).

In GE15, no party was able to secure a simple majority to form the new Federal Government.

The three main coalitions, namely Pakatan Harapan, Perikatan Nasional and Barisan Nasional, won 82, 73 and 30 seats respectively, resulting in a hung Parliament.

Political parties and coalitions failed to reach a consensus following the conclusion of GE15.

A special meeting was held at 11am on Thursday among the Malay rulers.
