KUALA LUMPUR: A collective decision on post-electoral pacts will be made by Barisan Nasional component parties today, says MCA president Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong. He said the Barisan supreme council held a meeting on the matter yesterday afternoon but no decision was made.
“Discussions will be continued since Istana Negara issued a statement that the matter should be finalised by 2pm tomorrow (today),” said Dr Wee after leaving the World Trade Centre Kuala Lumpur, where the Barisan meeting took place.
The King issued an order yesterday afternoon that leaders of political parties and coalitions would have until 2pm today to form post-electoral pacts and to nominate a prime minister candidate.
Dr Wee said the Barisan supreme council had deliberated on various possibilities during the meeting that took place between 2pm and 5pm.
“So far, nothing is conclusive.
“A decision hasn’t been made and we will make a collective decision tomorrow,” he reiterated yesterday.
Dr Wee said he also attended a morning meeting between Pakatan and Barisan leaders from 10am to noon.
“I attended the meeting based on the notice given to me, which invited all Barisan MPs.
“Whether or not the other group came, I don’t know whether it was planned or a coincidence,” he said, in possible reference to Pakatan.
MIC president Tan Sri SA Vigneswaran, who came out earlier than Dr Wee, said seven Barisan top leaders had been nominated to represent the coalition in negotiations with Pakatan.
He also said the Barisan supreme council would look into all factors and make the decision in the best interest of the nation.
“The meeting is over for today (yesterday),” he said.
Vigneswaran added that the meeting was to decide whether to support Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim or Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin as prime minister.
The Barisan supreme council meeting followed a meeting between Barisan and Pakatan leaders at Seri Pacific Hotel in the morning yesterday.
There was a hive of activity at WTC Kuala Lumpur and Seri Pacific Hotel after top Barisan and Pakatan leaders were spotted here to discuss a potential post-electoral pact.
