I have the numbers to be PM, says Muhyiddin

PETALING JAYA: Perikatan Nasional chairman Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin says he has the support of several parties from Sabah and Sarawak to form the Federal Government and for him to be the next prime minister.

He said Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) had backed a coalition with Perikatan, Barisan Nasional and Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) to form the new Federal Government.

“As chairman, I am confident that I have the support of MPs to enable me to be appointed by the Yang Di-Pertuan Agong as the 10th prime minister, in accordance with the Federal Constitution,” he said in a statement yesterday.

He said he had informed the Perikatan supreme council about his meeting yesterday morning with Sarawak Premier and GPS president Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg on forming the government.

“He then informed me that GPS MPs will back me to be appointed as prime minister,” he added.

Muhiyiddin, who is the Bersatu president, said Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) had also expressed similar support for him.
