GE15: Zuraida's three-term 'reign' in Ampang ends with PKR victory


AMPANG: Pakatan Harapan has retained the Ampang parliamentary seat with Rodziah Ismail from PKR winning a majority of 29,681 votes.

At 12.10am on Sunday (Nov 20), returning officer Mohd Fauzi Mohd Yatim made the official announcement at Dewan Dato Razali.

Rodziah garnered 56,354 votes, while Zuraida Kamaruddin from Parti Bangsa Malaysia (PBM) only managed to garner 4,589 votes.

Ivone Low Yi Wen from MCA received 11,509 votes, while Sasha Lyna from Perikatan Nasional received 27,073 votes.

The other candidates were: Dr Nurul Ashikin from Pejuang (2,653 votes); Bryan Lai from Warisan (1,423); and Independents M. Raveen (148), Muhammad Shafiq Izwan Mohd Yunos (188) and Tan Hua Meng (93).

Zuraida first won the seat in 2008 on a PKR ticket and defended it through GE14 with an increased majority each time.

She then left the party during the Sheraton Move of February 2020 and joined Bersatu before quitting this year to join PBM.
