GE15: Tian Chua concedes defeat in Batu

KUALA LUMPUR: KUALA LUMPUR: Batu Independent candidate Tian Chua has conceded defeat and congratulated Pakatan Harapan for winning the parliamentary seat, based on unofficial results.

With almost half of the 195 ballot boxes tallied, Pakatan’s P. Prabakaran is in a comfortable lead over the other candidates with 19,697 votes.

In a Facebook post late Saturday (Nov 19), former Batu MP Tian Chua said although he was not successful in his campaign, he would not abandon the struggle to fight for the people.

“I remain committed to my efforts to the change and reformation agenda.

“I hope all elected representatives will hold the people’s mandate with sincerity and wisdom so that the democratic system in our country continues to prosper,” he said.

Tian Chua also voiced appreciation for his volunteers and supporters throughout the campaign period.

As at midnight, EC official results showed Tian Chua only garnered 2,274 votes.

Perikatan Nasional’s Ustaz Azhar Yahya secured 8,630 votes while Datuk A Kohilan Pillay (Barisan Nasional) received 3,994 votes.

Only 87 out of 195 voting streams have so far been tallied thus far.
