GE15: Young voters thrilled to do their duty as citizens

CASTING their votes for the first time in the 15th General Election, sisters Ng Pui Mun, 26, and Pui Ling, 24, could not help feeling excited for doing their part as Malaysian citizens.

The siblings from Taman Bukit Cheras were spotted with their inked fingers after voting at SK Seri Anggerik in Taman Len Sen, Kuala Lumpur on Saturday (Nov 19).

"I think it is very important for us youngsters to vote as we can now be part of the system that determines the country's future," said Pui Mun.

"It is a new experience for us and I can't help feeling excited since last night.

"Fortunately, there was less of a crowd than we expected.

"The process was smooth and took less than 30 minutes," she added.

Pui Mun said she missed the chance to vote in GE14 in 2018 as she did not register with the Election Commission (EC) in time.

First-time voter Vincent Ho, who is part of the Undi18 cohort, felt it was his obligation to vote.

"This year, it is difficult to predict which coalition will win.

"But I want to vote so that I can be among the young voters determining the country's government," said the 20-year-old IT student.

Vincent's sister Vicky, 25, who accompanied him and also voted at SK Seri Anggerik, said she woke up feeling energetic.

"This is also my first time voting as I could not register in time for GE14.

"Last time, our parents voted for the government they wanted, and now, we are glad to do our part too," she said.
