GE15: Barisan's Wee Jeck Seng hopes rain will not deter Johor voters

PONTIAN: Barisan Nasional's Datuk Seri Dr Wee Jeck Seng hopes that the downpour here will not discourage voters from making their way to their respective polling stations.

The candidate for the Tanjung Piai seat said that he is glad to see some voters already at the polling station here in SJKC Yu Ming.

"Despite the rain, I can see that there are still many coming here early in the morning to cast their votes," said the Tanjung Piai MCA division chief on Saturday (Nov 19).

"I hope that this continues and that the rain will stop soon," he added, saying that so far there have yet to be indications of a flood heading towards the area.

Wee said this to reporters when met after casting his vote at the polling centre here with his wife Datin Seri Jenny Lim.

The two arrived here at about 7.50am, accompanied by Pekan Nanas assemblyman Tan Eng Meng.

Several other districts in Johor have also been seeing heavy rain since early Saturday (Nov 19) morning, including Johor Baru, Batu Pahat, Kulai and Mersing.

According to the Johor Defense Force (APM), a total of 278 people are still seeking refuge at the four relief centres in Segamat and Tangkak after being hit by floods since a few days ago.

However, no new relief centres have been opened in any other districts as of 8am.
