Senior citizen rescued after flash flood hits Kajang


KAJANG: An elderly woman was rescued after a flash flood hit Taman Pasir Emas here on Thursday (Nov 17).

The woman - a wheelchair user - was rescued by Selangor Fire and Rescue Department personnel after a distress call was received at about 2am.

"A total of seven officers and personnel from the Kajang Fire station were deployed to the location. We saved a senior citizen, who was using a wheel-chair and relocated her to a safer location," he said in a statement on Thursday.

Norazam said that the water level has risen to about 0.3m, affecting 170 houses in the area.

"However, rain has subsided and the water level is going down," he added.

In a separate case, Norazam said the depatment also relocated residents of 14 houses at Kampung Sungai Pening, Semenyih following floods in the area.

"We received a call at 1.40am and eight officers and personnel were deployed. When we arrived, there was still a heavy downpour. The water had risen to knee-level but the situation was under control," he said.
